Fun Fact
I spend the majority of my free time attending arts, entertainment and sports events. Specifically, I enjoy going to the ballet and orchestral concerts.
Past Experience
I am in the last year of my second term as a City Council member. Prior to running, I served on the City’s Planning Commission from 2013 - 2014. In 2014, I was appointed as the first African American female to serve as an Associate Judge in the Municipal Court. In 2016, I was appointed as a Hearing Officer for a special court. I resigned that position in 2017 to run for City Council. Since getting elected in 2017, I have attended training provided by the Georgia Municipal Association. I have been awarded the Certificate of Distinction and the Certificate of Appreciation. The courses provided help elected officials to learn the specific requirements for determining zoning cases, supporting City employees, dealing with questions of ethics, developing the City’s budget and all other aspects required to be an effective elected official. I also attend conferences and meeting with other elected officials throughout Georgia through the Georgia Municipal Association, elected officials in other states through the National League of Cities and international elected officials. These conferences allow me to network with other elected officials from all different sizes of cities to learn best practices for governing.
My Top Issues
Attracting and retaining businesses
It is important to retain the business that are currently located in the City, as well as attracting new businesses. The City’s procedures for licensing new businesses is streamlined to make starting or continuing a business in the City easy.
Invest in crime prevention
Over 50% of our annual budget goes to properly funding, staffing, training and equipping our police and fire departments. This dedicated support allows both forces to maintain top level certification.
Each council member receives funds to invest in infrastructure projects in their Ward. While the majority of the fund are directed to streets and sidewalks improvements, I strive to ensure that I am focusing my efforts and funds throughout the entire Ward.
