Past Experience

My Vision for Kennesaw Hi, I'm Jon Bothers, and I'm running for Kennesaw City Council – Post 3 because I love this city and believe we can make it even better for everyone who calls it home. My wife and I bought our house here over 20 years ago. We knew Kennesaw was the perfect place to raise a family, and now I want to help make sure it stays that way for future generations. As a real estate broker, former corporate trainer and spokesperson, and longtime community volunteer, I’ve seen how good planning and strong leadership can move a city forward. I’m running to support local businesses, make our streets safer and more walkable, and make sure Kennesaw grows in a smart, sustainable way that keeps our neighborhoods strong. I believe in listening first, cutting red tape that holds people back, and making thoughtful choices that move Kennesaw forward. Let’s keep building a stronger city — for all of us.

My Top Issues

Increasing affordable housing options

More Housing Choices, While Respecting Homeowners As our city grows, we need more housing types that work for people at different stages of life — not just large apartment complexes or age-restricted communities. Kennesaw should offer more affordable, flexible options like duplexes, cottages, and accessory homes that fit naturally into existing neighborhoods. These kinds of homes help young families buy their first home and allow older adults to stay near loved ones as they age. While some seniors prefer dedicated communities, many want the option to stay in the neighborhoods they know and love. Smaller, accessible homes make that possible by supporting aging in place and keeping families connected.

Helping local businesses grow by modernizing outdated rules

Cut Red Tape for Small, Home-Based Businesses Starting a small business from home in Kennesaw is harder than it should be. Even quiet businesses — like selling handmade goods online — have to go through a long, confusing process. You shouldn’t need to show the city photos of your whole house just to sell a few handmade hats. Let’s cut the red tape and make it easier for small home businesses that don’t have customers coming over and don’t bother anyone. Make Development Pay Off for Kennesaw We need to stop approving developments that cost more to maintain than they bring in through taxes. I want to see smart, productive growth that makes Kennesaw financially stronger. By focusing on projects that support businesses and boost property values, we’ll create a city that pays for itself — without raising taxes. By planning smarter and focusing on projects that benefit everyone, we can build a strong future without stretching city budgets.
