Richard McCabe

Hi, I’m Rick McCabe. I'm running for mayor. I'm a different kind of candidate. I'm a political independent, free from the party and partisan issues that are causing such problems on the City Council. My loyalty is to the community. My dad is a retired Rye police officer. My wife and I both grew up in Rye and we’re raising our kids here. I’m running to give back to this wonderful community that’s done so much for my family and me. I've had a successful corporate career, but what I think is more relevant is that I’m a passionate and effective local volunteer. Currently, I’m Chair of the City's Recreation Commission. On the Commission, I've proposed a number of major improvements that have become reality. I also have a knack for getting consensus across the Commission. This is exactly what our City Council needs in order to shift its focus from fighting each other to serving you, and every other resident. But enough about me. I’d love to hear what you’d like from our local government…..

Our nonprofits are a big part of what makes Rye such a great place to live. They provide us with everything from the arts to an enhanced sports field that the city could never afford on its own, to a beloved home for many of Rye's seniors. Yet when a nonprofit come to the City Council for project approval, my opponents drag their heels. Since they've been on the Council, project approval for Rye's nonprofits has been delayed by months or even years. We owe our valuable nonprofits - and the community - thoughtful but timely decisions. I'll make this approach a priority if I'm elected mayor.
