Job description
The Mayor is the chief executive officer of the municipality. They often preside over council meetings and may have the power to hire and fire heads of municipal departments.
Eligibility requirements
Must have attained the age of 18 years, and have at least 12 months' residency within the city; provided, however, that no person who is not a qualified elector of the city, who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude unless that person's civil rights have been restored, who holds an office of trust under the government of the United States, this state, or any foreign state which by the laws of the State of Georgia he or she is prohibited from holding, or who is the holder or receiver of public money of this state or any county, school district, or municipality thereof who has refused or failed when called upon after reasonable opportunity to account for and pay over the same to the proper officer.
