Job description
The Mayor is the chief executive officer of the municipality. They often preside over council meetings and may have the power to hire and fire heads of municipal departments.
Eligibility requirements
Registered to vote in the city of the office sought. If filing in a First Class City under Indiana law, the mayoral candidate must have resided in the city for at least one (1) year prior to the date of taking office. If filing in a Second or Third Class City under Indiana State law, the mayoral candidate must have resided in the city for at least one (1) year prior to the date of the general election. Cannot be convicted and sentenced of, nor have plead guilty or nolo contendere to any felony charges (unless it has been pardoned, reversed, vacated, set aside, the guilty plea unaccepted by jury, or expunged under state law). Cannot be an active-service member of the US armed forces.
