Job description
The Mayor is the chief executive officer of the municipality. They often preside over council meetings and may have the power to hire and fire heads of municipal departments.
Eligibility requirements
No person shall be elected or appointed to any City office, other than City Engineer and City Attorney, unless he shall at the time be a resident elector of said city, to any ward office unless he shall at the time be a resident elector of the ward for which he is elected or appointed, nor to the office of Supervisor unless he shall at the time be a resident elector of the supervisory district. Whenever any officer of said City, other than City Engineer or City Attorney, shall cease to be a resident of said City or of the district or ward for which he was elected or appointed, his office shall thereby become vacant; provided, however, that if the City Engineer is also Commissioner of Public Works, his office as Commissioner of Public Works shall become vacant if he ceases to be such resident of the City. No person shall at the same time hold more than one City office in said city, except that a Commissioner of Deeds may hold any other City office, except the office of Mayor, provided also that the City Engineer, if a resident of the City, may also hold the office of Commissioner of Public Works, if so appointed.
