Job description
The City Attorney is responsible for appearing in judicial, administrative and other legal actions; issuing legal opinions to city officers; drafting ordinances, bonds, and other legal documents; prosecuting ordinance violations in municipal court; and providing a full range of legal services to various City departments, boards, and entities.
Eligibility requirements
Candidate must be at least 18 years of age by the time of election, a resident of the city/village for at least 1 year immediately prior to election, and a registered voter in the city/village. Candidate must be an attorney admitted to practice in the state.

Filing requirements: Filing fee: $45. Petition signature requirement: 50 signatures for major party candidates, 25 for minor party candidates. Requirement for independent party candidates is based on number of votes cast in last general election for governor: if < 5000, 25 or a number = 5% of the vote (whichever is less); if > 5000, number = 1% of the vote.
